NEW YORK – New York City will spotlight its position as a leader in transportation technology when the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) and its European and Asia-Pacific counterparts arrive Nov. 16-20 for the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and ITS America’s Annual Meeting.
The convention is expected to draw more than 10,000 transportation, technology and business professionals from 45 countries who will learn about the latest ITS advancements. The event, taking place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, will generate more than 8,000 total hotel room nights and $20 million in economic impact for the city.
This marks the first time the ITS World Congress has been in the United States since 2005. NYC & Company, the official marketing, tourism and partnership organization for the city of New York, welcomed the show.
“There could be no better living laboratory to learn about the latest transportation advancements than New York City,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “We are pleased that ITS America has chosen New York City as the site for its 15th World Congress on ITS and ITS America’s Annual Meeting.”
The largest show of its kind in the world, the World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems will utilize more than 350,000 square feet of exhibit space at the Javits Center, and is the largest exhibition ever for a World Congress.
“New York City is a showcase for some of the most innovative ways that technology can power our transportation network,” said Janette Sadik-Khan, commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation. “With our new Joint Traffic Management Center, with Transit Signal Priority now installed on key bus routes and with the high-tech demonstrations we will be seeing on city streets as part of the congress in the coming week, New York is an ideal place to see what ITS can bring to a big city.”
More than 300 educational sessions will be featured during the show with more than 800 industry experts covering a broad range of ITS issues. |
