On May 16th, 2011 Skyline Genesis Event Marketing, a New York tradeshow display company, will participate in the Senior Thesis Capstone event at the Fashion Institute of Technology.  Glenn Diehl, President of Skyline Genesis Event Marketing, will attend as part of a panel of industry judges to review the senior projects of approximately 15 students completing the FIT Graduate Exhibition Design program.

“This is the fourth time I’ve participated in this very interesting day.  This exhibit design program is excellent and has been much needed for many years”, says Diehl.  “The program brings a more formal structure to the training and preparation of those particularly interested in the face-to-face marketing world.  Designing for these environments requires a unique set of skills and orientation and it’s good to see FIT taking the lead in providing this program.”

Students complete a rigorous one year program focused on all aspects of three dimensional and environmental design.  FIT works with various industry organizations to conduct internships, many of which result in eventual hiring by the participating companies.  “We hired our first FIT grad last year”, reports Diehl.  “This hire has been one of the best we’ve ever made.”

Green Exhibits

Brian

No, not Green-colored exhibits.  Green as in sustainable, earth-friendly, recycled, carbon-footprint considered, granola-eating, green.  I'm not sure if the green movement is growing or not, but we are increasingly receiving more and more calls about earth friendly exhibits.  So much so, in fact, that we created a line of them.

We did some market research to understand the consumer and what they were clammoring for with this green stuff.  I'll be honest, I haven't fully bought into 'being 100% green' myself, but its growing on me.  What we found was that they wanted every aspect of the exhibit to have some thought about it on how to make it more earth friendly.  Based on that, we did the following with the exhibits:

  • Recycled fabrics/material for panels
  • An overall lighter exhibit, which decreases shipping charges and carbon used to ship
  • Formaldehyde-free plywood
  • Lighter, recycled shipping cases
  • Trade-in/recycling program when the exhibit reaches end-of-life

So that is what we are doing to provide for this part of the market.  Have you done anything special to accomodate earth-friendly conscious customers?

Graphics Made Simple

ESPExhibits

Graphics Made Simple Image

As an exhibit manager, you are expected to know everything about everything - including graphic production - when it comes to managing your trade show program.  Graphics used to be my least favorite topic simply because I didn't know a PMS from a CMYK.  While I still defer to experts when it gets too deep, just knowing the basics gives me comfort.  Hopefully it will do the same for you.

Know Your Suppliers
Make sure your graphic designers are capable.  Review samples of their work from concept to end product.  Evaluate quality and compare to your need.  Is the work relevant to the scope of your project in terms of graphic size, materials, and level of difficulty?

Trade Shows Work!

ESPExhibits

Trade shows and events still represent the best and most meaningful way to connect with key customers.

According to Exhibit Surveys, Inc., "Exhibitions and events accelerate the sales process faster than any other media or form of direct marketing." A bold claim that is measurable and provable. While costs keep rising, trade shows continue to attract qualified buyers and influence their purchasing decisions.

Approximately 81% on average of trade show attendees are in a position to recommend or make final purchasing decisions.

This statistic known as Net Buying Influence (NBI) has remained constant since 1998.
